Déraciné launches tomorrow, exclusively for PlayStation VR! We’re big FromSoftware / Japan Studio fans around these parts, so we reached out to Hidetaka Miyazaki himself to learn more about this intriguing new collaboration.
Tucked away towards the end of this week’s PlayStation E3 Showcase broadcast was the surprise announcement that Bloodborne and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki is working on Déraciné, a new adventure game for PlayStation VR.
Set in a boarding school, you play as an ‘unseen faerie’ who explores the building while it’s frozen in time, slowly uncovering its mysteries.
Peaceful, calm and low-key, it seems an unlikely departure for a studio that has made its name creating brutal, hard-hitting action games. So, in search of answers – and never one to turn down an invitation to chat with one of the great game creators of the past decade – I caught up with Miyazaki backstage at E3 to learn more about this mysterious new project.
Déraciné is an all new adventure game that brings Japan Studio, FromSoftware and director Hidetaka Miyazaki together for the first time since Bloodborne. The story unfolds in a secluded boarding school where six children quietly spend their days. It is into this environment that you appear, an unseen faerie existing in a world of frozen time. As the story progresses, time shifts around you, at times even throwing you into the past.
Welcome back to PlayStation Underground, our online show about video games! Today, we are pleased to host and honored to have our special guest, the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida!
Before we were all swept away by the hustle and bustle of E3, Shu stopped by to showcase his personal obsession with Bloodborne by braving a high-level Chalice Dungeon with absolutely no fear (but maybe a little bit of caution). Shu also shares his heartfelt appreciation for the project, his history with FromSoftware, and his favorite weapons to employ against flaming hell beasts. He got a Platinum Trophy on this game, people!
I am happy to introduce a new boss character called “Darkbeast.” This electric beast emerges from giant skeletal remains. With lightning coursing through its body, it bombards the player with its erratic and off-speed movements. You can check out this beast in action in the video just released as part of IGN First.
Today as part of IGN First we revealed our brand new story trailer for Bloodborne, the PS4-exclusive Action RPG from developers FromSoftware and SCE Japan Studio. This trailer introduces some of the characters you’ll meet along the way as you venture into the depths of the cursed city of Yharnam, and hints at some of the dark secrets waiting to be uncovered by brave hunters.
