Heyo! My name is Mihir Sheth and I’m a senior combat tech-designer here at Santa Monica Studio. Now that God of War has been out for some time – and plenty of players have experienced the combat themselves – I wanted to take a moment to talk about “Give Me God of War,” the hardest difficulty mode available. As many of you have likely noticed, Give Me God of War sets itself up ominously with bold red text stating that the difficulty cannot be changed mid-game. It’s not for the faint of heart!
As you face it for the first time you’ll likely be overwhelmed during the opening hours of the game. Hopefully this post (along with the plethora of great player-made resources already online) can remove some of the mysticism behind the difficulty mode, and offer some advanced combat tips and techniques in the process!
Boy – the game is OUT!
We at Santa Monica Studio have been blown away by the massive outpouring of positivity from our players, peers and the community over the global release of God of War. The last couple of weeks have been an exciting and humbling ride for us and we’d like to thank everyone for your love, support and for playing!
Kratos is back and better than ever! It doesn’t come as a huge surprise that God of War topped the PS4 downloads list for April, but we’re humbled nonetheless by the incredible response the game has gotten.
Far Cry 5 and MLB The Show 18 continue to move, rounding out the top 3 for PS4, while Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality debuted at #1 for PS VR.
I find that themes in a score are an incredibly effective way to elicit an emotional response from an audience, and I felt strongly God of War would benefit from such an approach. I spent the first months of production in a liberated creative state, writing themes, free from the constraints of matching picture or satisfying gameplay requirements. This work resulted in a handful of essential themes that became the foundation of the score, four of which open the soundtrack album.
Have y’all finished God of War? If the answer is yes, this spoilercast is for you! I sat down with Director Cory Barlog to geek out over Norse mythology and get his thoughts on the full game (Including those juicy end game reveals!). Before we dive in, Ryan and I quickly chat through the new releases for next week and the Fortnite Battle Pass.
